Gold Canoe – Training and Practice Expedition

The mighty river Thames is a beautiful mix of rural and urban landscapes. The journey will take you down one of Britain’s most important waterways, down small backwaters and give you the opportunity to explore islands, canals, cities and towns from a unique and beautiful perspective.
No prior experience is required for this expedition, so don’t worry if you’ve never canoed before! Our first day will be spent around the centre working on your core paddling skills, ensuring you can safely and efficiently paddle your boat. The first night focuses on socialising so you’re welcome to head into Reading or order takeaway for dinner. Day 2 will develop leadership and group management skills whilst building your paddling fitness and putting those core skills into real world situations with a journey to and from the campsite. Day 3 and 4 is the practice expedition where we will journey downstream under the mentorship of your instructor to ensure you develop independence and confidence in your ability to journey as a team without external input. This trip is the ideal foundation for our qualifying canoe trips later in the summer.

What is included?
- All training and expedition guidance, route planning and instruction.
- All group expedition kit e.g., tents, cookers, fuel, first aid kits, map’s etc.
- All technical canoe equipment e.g. drybags, canoes, paddles, buoyancy aids etc.
- The provision of accommodation as detailed in the itinerary.
- Provision of qualified and experienced instructors, pastoral support and 24-hour emergency back up support in case of emergencies.
- A pre-expedition training session for the whole group via Teams/ Zoom etc.
